The acoustic guitar is often called in the classical Spanish guitar. Flamenco, the folk music of Spain, is famous for its vibrant guitar music. Its body shaped like the 8 figure, it probably came to Spanish from Northern Africa and may have been descend from the lute family. By the 17th century the guitar was being played all over Europe. Today it dominates the popular folk music of America and Europe.
